IndyCar: Friday Afternoon Report from Road America

Good afternoon from the rolling hills in Elkhart Lake, WI, for the ninth round of the NTT INDYCAR Series for the XPEL Grand Prix at Road America.  The temperatures are not expected to be favorable this weekend, with highs in the low 80s anticipated this afternoon.

The drivers are happy to be racing here this weekend on the longest road course we race on, a 4.014-mile, 14-turn permanent road course.   It has been three years since the track was resurfaced and should be weathered for this Sunday’s 55-lap event.

This will be the first time the Series races with the hybrid on this track.   That extra 75 pounds will definitely slow down the lap speeds, according to AJ Foyt Enterprises’ Santino Ferrucci.  The young American is also planning on wearing a cool suit for the race due to the predicted temperatures of 90 degrees for the early afternoon race.

Meyer Shank’s Marcus Armstrong is comfortable with the hot temperatures.  “I run cold, so I always wear a hoodie or jumper when it is like 90 degrees.  So I am not worried about the heat.”

“I love this place, and I have a lot of unfinished business here.  So this is a race I circle on the calendar.  Unfortunately, last year we had a problem in Turn 1 and an engine failure later in the race.  This year, we are going to try and rectify that.”
