NASCAR News: Chase Elliott wins pole for Dover Cup race
Chase Elliott (pictured) has been gifted the Busch Light Pole Award after both practice and qualifying were canceled on Saturday for the Cup race at Dover Speedway.
Elliott will roll off from the top spot for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series AutoTrader EchoPark Automotive 400 at the “Monster Mile.”
The qualifying metric is combined by the previous race finish (70%) and current owner points position (30%). The 2022 Dover winner will line up next to Chase Briscoe, who finished second last week at Sonoma Raceway, to complete the front row.
Christopher Bell, Tyler Reddick and William Byron round out the top-five starters. Winner of the last two Cup races, Shane van Gisbergen will start sixth, while Michael McDowell, Joey Logano, Ty Gibbs and Kyle Busch complete the top 10.
Gibbs is matched up against Tyler Reddick in Round 4 of the In-Season Challenge. Ty Dillon and John Hunter Nemechek are matched up in the other semifinal, and they are starting 21st and 28th, respectively.
Denny Hamlin, last year’s Dover winner, will start 13th.
