IndyCar News: Ferrucci has incident in Morning Toronto Practice

Santino Ferrucci, driver of the No. 14 Sexton Properties Chevrolet, managed to make contact with the barrier in Turn 8 with five minutes left in the morning IndyCar warm-up session in Toronto.  The session was checkered.

Christian Lundgaard had the fastest time with a lap of 1m07.1219s, followed by his teammate Nolan Siegel.

The NTT INDYCAR Series warm-up this morning was not helpful for race setups, as overnight rain left the track wet in some areas.  Only 24 drivers completed laps this morning, most doing only five laps or less.  The Chip Ganassi Racing cars did not turn any laps.

Colton Herta, the polesitter for today’s race, completed one lap on his green tires and experienced a few small moments due to the track conditions and his slick tires.

The Ontario Honda Dealers Toronto Indy will drop the green flag at 12:22 pm ET this afternoon.

Toronto Starting Lineup

Clearly lots of folks at the front banking on an early yellow through which to ditch the alternates & those at the back hoping to run long in their 1st stint on primaries.

Today’s Race

Will today be another race when Alex Palou wins – like taking candy from a baby – or will one of the Andretti drivers beat him?

Next Year’s Race

The question that has been asked many times this weekend is where and when the Toronto race will be held next season.  The 2026 FIFA World Cup schedule features several dates in the city, running from June 12 to July 2, 2026.

The games will be held at the BMO stadium at Exhibition Place, which is where the IndyCars race.  Autoracing1 has heard that the stadium is going to be doubled in size.

What will that do to the layout of the race track after the expansion?

The only information being shared at this time is that the race promoters are committed to hosting a race in the Toronto area (think Mosport – now called the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park)
