IndyCar News: Collet Wins Both Races in INDY NXT by Firestone

HMD’s Caio Collet was victorious this weekend in the INDY NXT by Firestone series by winning both races at WeatherTech Raceway at Laguna Seca.  This is the Brazilian’s third  race win of this season, after winning the road course at Road America in late June.

” I never expected to come out like this, like on Friday, to be honest. We just kept working hard. We had a great car all weekend. Yesterday was a tough race. Today is a little bit easier. I mean, it’s never easy, but it’s like we made a little bit of an improvement in the car, and I could just drive a little bit better. Yeah, put a little bit of a gap in the beginning of the race.”

“I think we did a good job on managing the restarts, and there were many. And also my leg was, like, becoming a bit numb, pumping the brakes behind the cars.”

“It was a good weekend, and I couldn’t ask for a better weekend, to be honest.”

Collet’s teammate at HMD, Josh Peirson, also had a good weekend, finishing third in Race 1 and second in Race 2.

“HMD rolled out a fantastic car for us. Happy to walk away with a one-two for the team. We had a great package. For myself, a career-best finish. I’m very happy to walk away
second today.  One step higher, but still trying to find that last step now.”

“A really solid weekend for myself, and happy to walk away with second.”

Andretti Global’s Dennis Hauger, the championship points leader, did not have as good a weekend, after finishing second in Race 1 but only 16th in Race 2.   His point lead has been cut to 42 after Collet’s gain of 52 points.

There are three more races this season. Their next race at Portland International Raceway on August 10th.
