Formula E News: Felipe Drugovich Eyes Formula E Switch After F1 Struggles
Felipe Drugovich (pictured), the 25-year-old Brazilian driver, is reportedly set to leave Aston Martin’s Formula 1 program to join Andretti in Formula E for the 2026 season, according to The Race.
The 2022 Formula 2 champion, who has served as Aston Martin’s reserve and development driver since 2023, has been unable to secure a race seat alongside Fernando Alonso or Lance Stroll. An announcement regarding his Formula E move could come as early as next week.
Despite a stellar junior career, Drugovich has struggled to break into F1’s competitive landscape. His time as a reserve driver has been challenging, with limited track time hindering his ability to showcase his talent. “It’s tough,” Drugovich admitted. “I’ve had free practice sessions where people said I drove well, but without consistent racing, it’s hard to jump into a race or practice session.”
Drugovich has already dipped his toes into Formula E, substituting for Mahindra’s Nyck de Vries at the Berlin E-Prix in July 2025. Scoring two points over the weekend, he impressed the Mahindra team, which may have paved the way for his potential move to Andretti.
His talent has not gone unnoticed in F1 circles. Two-time world champion Fernando Alonso praised Drugovich’s potential, saying, “It would be great to see him in Formula 1. He has incredible talent. His Formula 2 dominance was proof, and he’s always delivered with limited track time.”
However, Aston Martin’s struggles in 2025—currently sixth in the constructors’ championship with just 62 points, a steep decline from their 280-point 2023 season—may make a Formula E switch a smarter career move. Despite a strong start with Lance Stroll’s sixth place in Australia, the team has been consistently outperformed by rivals like Williams. With no clear path to a race seat at Aston Martin, Drugovich’s move to the all-electric series could offer a fresh start to showcase his skills and revitalize his racing career.
