Formula 1 News: Fallows Returns to Red Bull Fold as VCARB Technical Director in Surprise Move

In a notable twist for Formula 1’s technical landscape, Dan Fallows (pictured) has been appointed as the new Technical Director for Visa Cash App RB (VCARB), marking his return to the Red Bull family after a brief and tumultuous stint at Aston Martin.

Fallows, who will start in April 2026 following his gardening leave, reports directly to Chief Technical Officer Tim Goss and will oversee the team’s overall technical direction, including design, aerodynamics, and performance optimization.

Fallows brings a wealth of experience from over 15 years at Red Bull Racing, where he served as a senior aerodynamics engineer and one of Adrian Newey’s key deputies from 2006 to 2021. His 2022 move to Aston Martin as technical director—following a protracted legal dispute over his notice period—saw him command a high-profile salary around £1 million, but he departed in November 2024 amid the team’s performance struggles.

This appointment fills the void left by Jody Egginton, who transitioned to engineering director at Red Bull Advanced Technologies, and represents a key step in VCARB’s ongoing technical restructuring.

Expressing enthusiasm for the role, Fallows said: “I’m very pleased to be joining VCARB at an exciting time for the team. There is a clear vision and strong technical ambition, and I’m looking forward to working closely with Tim and the wider engineering group to help drive performance and continue building the team for the future.”

Team Principal Alan Permane echoed the sentiment, highlighting Fallows’ value: “Dan has a wealth of experience, and his technical understanding and leadership will be a real asset to the team as we continue to develop and push forward competitively. We’re delighted to welcome him to VCARB.”

The Faenza-based squad, which secured sixth place in the 2025 constructors’ championship with 92 points, is eyeing further midfield consolidation in 2026 with drivers Liam Lawson and rookie Arvid Lindblad.

Fallows’ expertise is expected to bolster these ambitions, though his direct influence on car design may take time to materialize, with the VCARB 03 already debuting at Imola. This move underscores VCARB’s commitment to enhancing its competitive edge within the Red Bull ecosystem.
