McLaughlin Crashes through Fence in Practice at Barber

In the NTT INDYCAR Series Practice 2, Scott McLaughlin spun and made hard contact with the catch fence above the tire wall on drivers right in Turn 1. The New Zealander climbed out of the car with help from the AMR INDYCAR Safety Team. Luckily, he backed into the wall. Unfortunately, it was at 150 MPH.

The session was red-flagged and checked after 37 minutes. With fence repairs needed, the two 20-minute group sessions were cancelled.

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Alex Palou ended up fastest of the shortened session with a lap time of 1:06.4680. Cooler temperatures today allowed for faster times.

Kyle Kirkwood, driver of the No 27 JM Bullion/Gold.com Honda was second fastest with a lap of 1:06.5217.

Rinus Veekay, driver of the No 76 Juncos Hollinger Racing Chevrolet, was third fastest with a lap of 1:06.5950.

Romain Grosjean, driver of the No 18 Dale Coyne Racing, was on top of the charts for part of the session but ended up fourth with a lap of 1:06.6090.

Marcus Armstrong, driver of the No 66 Sirius XM Honda, rounded out the top five with a time of 1:06.6163.

Team Penske is working hard to get the No 3 Odyssey Battery back together before Qualifying for Scott McLaughlin. The two-time winner was checked and released from the INDYCAR Medical Unit.

The Firestone Fast Six Qualifying will begin at 1:35 pm. The Fast Six cars will qualify individually with one times lap for the pole.
