IndyCar Portland TV rating (Update)

UPDATE NBC earned a 0.74 final rating for the Portland GP, down from the 0.81 overnight, but up 111% over last years horrible NBCSN 0.35 rating. However, just as we told our readers for years, if they put all IndyCar races on network TV they will average over 1 million viewers per broadcast and the sponsors and manufacturers will start knocking on the doors.

The Portland race pulled in 1.1 million viewers – 10% above the magical 1 million mark. Of course the NBCSN numbers pale in comparison (1.1M viewers for NBC vs 0.52M for NBCSN) and are preventing IndyCar from reaching its full potential.

09/02/19 NBC earned a 0.81 overnight rating for yesterday's NTT IndyCar Series Portland GP, up 125% from a 0.36 for last year's race, which was on the cable NBCSN channel that always gets horrible ratings.

The fact that all IndyCar races are not on NBC is unthinkable. NBCSN ratings will destroy any sport's ability to raise sponsorship and new manufacturers.
