In Formula 1 we need “simpler rules, transparent rules", we need to make it “immediately understandable, in its dynamics, in the eyes of the public" demands the vice-president of Ferrari, Piero Ferrari in an interview with Italian media today.

Piero Lardi Ferrari is an Italian billionaire businessman, the second and only living son of Enzo Ferrari, and a 10% owner of the Ferrari automotive company of which he is the vice chairman.

“We need a uniformity of judgment on the controversial episodes. Either we do this or people become disaffected".

During an interview with Resto del Carlino, Ferrari said he was saddened by the convoluted nature of modern Formula One.

“The risk is that our fans begin to suspect a kind of chastising against the Scuderia. I prefer to think that’s not true. We can’t afford a loss of credibility. The passion of ordinary people, of the man in the street, must be respected".

After the punishment of Vettel in Canada and the acquittal of Verstappen in Austria, many fans are split with a large portion thinking that stewards of Formula 1 follow two rules.

“Ferrari’s position is clear, for us Vettel won in Montreal. There has been a literal application of the rules to him, but the race in Zeltweg has failed to do so".

“I put aside the controversy, on the decisions of the referees there are always different opinions. I am raising a question of principle.

“We all need simpler rules, transparent rules. We must, as far as possible, make Formula 1 immediately understandable, in its dynamics, in the eyes of the public.

And then we need uniformity of judgment on the controversial episodes. Either we do this or people become disaffected".

If Ferrari had won two of the last three races, today’s ranking would be very different. “In the last month with Vettel and Leclerc we won two poles and fought for victory on both occasions until the checkered flag. After all the external controversy, the team is reacting to the difficulties. It’s a good thing."
