Lewis Hamilton's brother has been signed up as the new driver for the British Touring Car Championship.

Nic Hamilton will take the wheel for British motor racing team Motorbase Performance, which is best known for competing in the BTCC.

The team, based in Wrotham, Kent, are delighted to welcome the 26-year-old onto their roster, because he is an accomplished driver who hopes to follow in his older brother's tire tracks.

Nic, who has cerebral palsy, said: "They've got me as a disabled driver which is new to them – they have no idea what to expect from me.

"A lot of people expect me not to do very well this year.

"My announcement went well, there was a lot of negativity which is great because it fires me up. So I'm super excited, we've got a big mountain to climb.

"But I'm just going to treat it like I do with my condition, people didn't expect me to race a car and I wasn't even meant to stand up and walk.

"So I'm used to exceeding expectations and overcoming a lot of obstacles."

Nic contested 12 rounds of the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship in 2015 and said he can't wait to complete a full 30-race program.

The 26-year-old said: "I cannot actually believe that I will be back on the BTCC grid this year.

"I have been in and out of different series since I started racing due to a lack of funding and general support.

"A lot of people assume that due to my name, I will have all of the funding in the world, but this could not be any further from the truth.

"I have been on my own for the past six years, grinding away, trying to get a full season under my belt with all of the support I need."

Nic will race a specially modified Ford Focus RS because of his condition. The Mirror
