Maybe Firestone would have stayed

A reader writes, Dear AutoRacing1.com, The news that Firestone is leaving IndyCar is not good. If the company that replaces them does not offer tires at the same price and do as much advertising and promotion, any saving realized by the new IndyCar will be wiped out. Why did Firestone leave? Will Williams

Dear Will, Although Firestone did not say in their press release the real reason behind their departure, rest assured if they were getting more exposure on TV their decision may have been different. They did a lot to support IndyCar racing through the split and sunk a lot of money into the sport, for what, 0.2 or 0.3 ratings on Versus? Where is the return on investment? So once again, the decision to go with Versus for their TV contract may (we repeat May) be coming back to haunt IndyCar. Pennywise and pound foolish. Mark C.
