Kasey Kahne To Retire From Full-Time Competition After 2018 Season

NASCAR Cup Series driver Kasey Kahne announced on his Twitter feed on Thursday that he would be retiring from full-time racing in NASCAR following the end of the 2018 season.

Citing the "grueling schedule" and the time away from his family whole competing on the Cup Series circuit, Kahne said he needed to "spend more time doing things I enjoy" which included spending time with his World of Outlaw Sprint Car teams as well as his two-year-old son, Tanner.

Kahne, a former Rookie of the Year now in his 15th season in the Cup Series, had been in his first year driving for Leavine Family Racing after losing his ride at Hendrick Motorsports last season. Kahne had been struggling all year with the low-budget team, tallying just one top-five finish so far this season. He is currently 28th in points and unlikely to make the Cup Series playoffs.

Although it's unclear if LFR's performance played a role in his decision, Kahne's tweet stated "The highs don't outweigh the lows."
