Mears to re-sign with Ganassi?

UPDATE This rumor is downgraded to 'false' today. Casey Mears, despite repeated assurances over the past few weeks that he and owner Chip Ganassi were close to working out a contract extension, will not return to Ganassi's organization next season.

Ganassi told members of Mears' No. 42 Dodge team on Thursday of the driver's decision, multiple sources confirmed to the Charlotte Observer.

05/11/06 Casey Mears says he has yet to sign a new contract extension with car owner Chip Ganassi; however talks have stepped up in recent weeks and have been positive. “We’ve been talking a lot in trying to work things out" said Mears during a break in Busch Series testing at Lowe's Motor Speedway. If his phone has been ringing more often concerning possible rides Mears isn’t biting. “Anybody’s that’s had an open ride has had interest but I haven’t really pursued any of it, said Mears. I’m just focused on what I’m doing right now and talking to Chip. We’ve got our best run going that I’ve ever had in cup so far and we’re really focused on trying to make that chase. Chip and I haven’t finalized anything yet but neither one of us are really panicked about it." PRN's Garagepass Radio Show
