Pedro unlikely for F1 return, Champ Car next?

Pedro de la Rosa is unlikely to return to the grand prix grid in 2006. The McLaren tester, who had been in talks with the BMW works team, told Spanish daily 'As' that there are 'no good seats' left for next year.

''When BMW signed (Nick) Heidfeld,'' the 34-year-old Spaniard – former racer for Arrows and Jaguar – said, ''a lot of opportunities vanished.

''I don't get it — I can't do anything more.''

De la Rosa's racing grit shone through when he replaced Juan Pablo Montoya at Bahrain, and he reckons he is driving quickly in testing.

He thinks his age is putting teams off. ''If I was twenty,'' de la Rosa explained, ''I'd be formula one's man of the moment.''

Why Champ Car doesn't go after him is beyond us as obviously he is one of the quickest drivers in the world, and 34 years old is not too old. This guy deserves a race seat before he retires.
