Berger and Minardi

Gerhard Berger would be the perfect front-man for Red Bull's newly acquired Minardi outfit. That was the rumor mill's most recent suggestion, which has now been denied by the energy drink mogul Dietrich Mateschitz.

Berger, a former 10-grand prix winner and BMW motor sport director, is – like Mateschitz – Austrian and a great friend of the billionaire.

But he told Motorsport Aktuell: ''Gerhard is an entrepreneur in the transportation business and has a full-time job … not to mention a nice big family.''

Mateschitz, who said Red Bull has not yet decided on management or drivers for 2006-spec Minardi, did hint at a possible new name for the team. ''Perhaps we will call it Red Bull Rookie,'' he let slip.
