Scott Speed to announce F1 plans at Monza

UPDATE #2 This rumor is upgraded to 'fact' today – see Hot News page for announcement. Either Christian Klien or Tonio Liuzzi are out of a job, will they look to Champ Car or step down to GP2 next year?

08/24/05 Scott Speed is all set to become America's first full time F1 fixture since Michael Andretti raced for McLaren twelve years ago. He will almost certainly be the 2006 Red Bull 'Friday' driver.

Although he wouldn't confirm the speculation, Speed did reveal that his management will put out a press release relating to 'formula one stuff' at the Italian grand prix.

''You'll find out then,'' he added. Speed's Red Bull link, it is reported, was nearly damaged beyond repair when his manager tried to explore other options – perhaps at Williams – for 2006 and beyond. The Californian is currently a regular in the GP2 category.

08/23/05 It is thought that Scott Speed will at least land a F1 test drive for next year, if not a race seat. He hinted something might be up in an interview on the GP2 website.
GP2 Series: Are you surprised to be the only one of the top guys not to take a win so far?
Scott: In Barcelona I didn’t get a win because the clutch slipped off the line – we should easily have won that race. Obviously I had a great chance in, well, a few of them, and they’ve slipped away for a few reasons.

GP2 Series: How frustrating is that to you?
Scott: It is frustrating, but I’m not so concerned.

GP2 Series: One other thing – there are rumors that you won’t be working with Red Bull next year. Is there any truth to that?
Scott: As far as my Formula One stuff goes, we’ll be making an official press release in Monza, so you’ll find out then.
