Trans Am Qualifying at Mid-Ohio Cancelled Due to Lightning, Impending Storms

Standing water, lightning and an impending storm front descending on Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course spelled the cancellation of today’s Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli qualifying sessions for tomorrow’s FirstEnergy Muscle Car Challenge and FirstEnergy 100.

This marks the second time Trans Am qualifying has been cancelled due to conditions deemed unsafe this year, the first being TA2 qualifying at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in June.

Tomorrow’s Trans Am races will be gridded by championship points, putting TA class leader Ernie Francis, Jr., in the No. 98 Buoniconti Fund Ford Mustang, on pole for the multi-class First Energy 100, while Mark Boden, in the No. 46 Fall-Line Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, and Brian Kleeman, in the No. 07 DWW Motorsports Ford Mustang, will lead out TA3 and TA4, respectively, in the same competition.

Gar Robinson, in the No. 74 Pura Vida Tequila/ 74 Ranch Resort Chevrolet Camaro, will start on pole for the First Energy Muscle Car Challenge, featuring TA2 exclusively. Dillon Machavern, in the No. 24 Heritage Motorsports Ford Mustang, will start alongside.

Trans Am joins NASCAR Xfinity Series and the F4 US Championship for the track’s Mid-Ohio Challenge weekend, marking Trans Am’s 30th appearance on the Ohio circuit.
