‘Schu faces GPDA axe’

Michael Schumacher could be ousted as president of the grand prix drivers' association (GPDA), Sir Jackie Stewart has warned. The Scot, a leading advocate of F1 safety in the seventies, said the seven time world champion is 'wrong' for not backing his rivals in a row about driver safety.

At the crux of the tension seems to be Michael's non-reluctance to sign letters backing the teams' stance regarding the Indy tire situation.

Stewart, once a triple world champion, said the nonconformity is a 'serious oversight. ''I am sure there are those who will excuse him from his duties on the GPDA,'' the 66-year-old told the Mirror newspaper. ''All the other drivers can't be wrong.''
