USG to replace Tropicana at Chicagoland

UPDATE This rumor is upgraded to 'fact' today. Chicagoland Speedway has signed Chicago-based building materials manufacturer USG Corp. as title sponsor for the track’s July 8-10 NASCAR weekend, according to Scott Warfield of SPORTSBUSINESS JOURNAL. Friday’s qualifying session has been named USG Pole Day, Saturday’s Busch series race has been titled the USG Durock 300, and Sunday’s Nextel Cup event is now the USG Sheetrock 400. The Nextel Cup race was formerly sponsored by Tropicana. Terms were not disclosed, but sources peg rights to the entire race weekend “in the mid-seven figures annually." Chicagoland Speedway VP & GM Matthew Alexander said that the deal is a “multiyear commitment from USG." Warfield notes Ford, which sponsors Championship Weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway in November, “is the only other company to have an entire weekend to itself" 05/15/05 We have it on good word that USG will probably be sponsoring both Busch and Nextel Cup races this year at Chicagoland Speedway. Tropicana has sponsored the events for the last four years. Rick Schenk reporting from Chicago
