BMW 'to buy Sauber'

(GMMF1.NET) BMW may abandon Williams and buy independent F1 team Sauber, a German newspaper reported on Sunday. 'Welt am Sonntag' suggested that the Munich-based manufacturer is not simply talking to Peter Sauber's Swiss squad about a customer engine supply. The newspaper said several meetings have already taken place.

Meanwhile, Ferrari's Jean Todt – current supplier of V10 power for the team – said he 'hoped' Hinwil-based Peter Sauber sealed a new deal with a carmaker. The Frenchman explained: ''If Peter Sauber has the opportunity to get a better deal … he is right to do it.''
