Two-time NASCAR champion Sam Ard dead at 78

It was announced that legendary short tracker and national NASCAR touring driver Sam Ard died early on Sunday morning. He was 78 years old.

The South Carolina native was a two-time champion of what is now the NASCAR Xfinity Series, capturing championships in 1983 and 1984, when it was still known as the Late Model Sportsman division. He also won the most-popular driver honors both years he was crowned champion.
