Cape Motorsports Set To Enter F4 US Championship in 2017

Cape Motorsports, the winningest team in American junior formula car competition, will expand its program in 2017 by adding a three-car team to campaign in the F4 United States Championship Powered by Honda. The Cape brothers – Dominic and Nicholas – are currently in talks with drivers for the coming year, but the first seat is confirmed and veteran open wheel formula car pilot Steve Bamford will lead the line-up. The Canadian has been a frontrunner in the F1600 and F2000 Championship series for the last five years and has won back-to-back Masters Championships in the F2000 program. The Capes have taken delivery of three new Crawford F4 chassis and assembly is underway for the expected launch of a testing program later this month.

"We’re pretty excited to add the F4 US Championship to our program," offered Dominic Cape. "The series fits into our overall internal ladder system and will be a great step for young drivers graduating from karting. We like the budget and we like the cars, and we’re really looking forward to getting out to the track to begin our test program."

The F4 United States Championship is entering its second season of competition, having debuted midway through the 2016 calendar year. The program features an American-made Onroak Automotive North America (formerly Crawford Composites) F4-16 carbon-fiber tub chassis, 160hp of Honda power and Pirelli tires. The team will be run out of the Cape Motorsports shop in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The F4 United States Championship Powered by Honda consists a total of 18 races on the year, from a total of six weekends. The five-month season of tripleheader events will begin in early April at Homestead-Miami Speedway (April 8-9), and will then run races at Virginia International Raceway (April 28-30), Indianapolis Motor Speedway (June 8-11), Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (July 8-9), Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course (August 10-12) and the Circuit of the Americas (September 14-17).
