Double pole for Herta as Norris makes it Carlin front row lock out

Colton Herta confirmed his front running pace in yesterday’s practice sessions by taking his maiden MSA Formula Championship pole position at the Snetterton circuit in Norfolk. Team mate Lando Norris made it a Carlin front row lock out by qualifying second, while Petru Florescu was also on strong form qualifying in seventh place.

After topping all three practice sessions yesterday, 15 year-old Herta was the driver to watch as qualifying got underway this morning and a warm and sunny Snetterton circuit. The young American duly went quickest with his first flying lap as the field continued to warm up their Hankook tires.

Team mate Norris was also on good form, going P1 on the timing screens half way through the session just ahead of Herta while Florescu was in 12th place. A few minutes later Herta went faster again, taking back P1 from Norris while Florescu improved to sixth.

At the checkered flag Herta and Norris had done enough to secure front row starts for both race one and race three of the weekend, while Florescu will line up seventh and sixth.

After taking two pole positions this morning, Herta said, “I must have eaten something in the summer holidays, because I was quick this morning! I think in the last few tests I’ve really found some speed in myself and finally I’ve applied that this weekend. I was able to put it all together in qualifying. I know what I need to do in the races now, so I am just focusing on that."

Team mate Norris who will start just behind Herta for race one and three added, “Colton is doing a great job, I couldn’t quite match him this morning, but we’re still faster than the rest of the field. He’s going to be quite hard to beat him in the races. If anyone is going to be faster than you though it helps if it’s your team mate as you can look at his data and try and improve, hopefully we can push each other to stay in front of the others."

The first race of the weekend will take place at 15.10 later today.
