If you're a big fan of the Indianapolis 500 and Indianapolis Motor Speedway, put this on your bucket list for next year.

To coincide with Saturday's MAVTV 500 at Auto Club Speedway, numerous motorsports celebrities including Mario Andretti and Johnny Rutherford on Friday attended a “first rough cut" screening of "Behind the Indianapolis 500 with Parnelli Jones," a movie that promises to be a great addition to next year’s 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500.

The projected one-hour film – which producers hope to sell to a major TV network that will air it in time for the 2016 500 – revolves around Jones’ five-plus decade of involvement with the Greatest Spectacle of Racing, as well as IMS.

“Seeing (the 500) through the eyes of a race legend provides an entirely new perspective and one that makers of the film … believe will resonate with race fans everywhere," a media release promises.

The movie focuses on Jones’ days as a driver and team owner, as well as his annual trip back to Indy and the 500, which began with his rookie season in 1961.

The movie also includes Jones’ win in the 1963 edition of the 500, almost winning in 1967 and consecutive 500 wins as team owner when Al Unser won in 1970 and 1971.

“It brought back a lot of memories and stuff," Jones said. “I think the whole picture is probably good for racing, anyway. I think people that see it could relate to where we come from. People don’t usually get to see how it all happens."

Besides Jones, other racing legends that appear in the film include Andretti, Bobby Unser and Rick Mears.

“I’m hoping it will give a boost to the 100th and give people a little bit more awareness about how cool the speedway is and how cool the 500 is and how much history is there," co-producer Annie Walker said in a media release. Jerry Bonkowski/NBC Motorsportstalk
