F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone said that F1 could still race at Long Beach "despite event organizers and the city agreeing last month to extend its IndyCar Grand Prix" until at least '18, according to Christian Sylt for FORBES. Along with the extension, Long Beach City Council "also gave an approval to solicit proposals from alternative race organizers to decide whether to continue with IndyCar after its deal expires."
In February "it came to light" that Ecclestone had written to Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster to say "Formula One is interested in returning to your city" and it seems that "he isn’t deterred by the IndyCar extension." Ecclestone: “I could have a race at Long Beach this afternoon if I wanted." FORBES
