Vettel sidelined by Red Bull lemon in both Friday sessions in Spain

Maybe he was winning too much and the team was told to make sure Sebastian Vettel does nothing this year. Whatever the reason, the Red Bull lemon has let Vettel down again after being so reliable for 4 straight years. Hmm……

Vettel has missed the second practice session for the Spanish Grand Prix after an electrical issue forced him to pull over to the side of the track during FP1 as well on Friday morning.

The defending Formula 1 world champion has endured a difficult start to the season, but he arrived in Spain with a spring in his step thanks to a new chassis and the promise of some updates on the RB10 car.

However, any enthusiasm Vettel may have had took a hit when, with less than 30 minutes of the first session gone, he was forced to pull over at the side of the track and end his session. This was due to damage caused to the wiring loom on his car.

With this being no quick fix, Red Bull has opted to not risk sending him out during FP2, meaning that Daniel Ricciardo will be the team’s sole representative in the session on Friday afternoon.

The team will now work on fixing the issue overnight, and the car is likely to be ready for the final practice session on Saturday morning ahead of qualifying.

Vettel will therefore be on the back foot as a result of his limited running, but he will be able to use some of the data that is recovered by Ricciardo during the session.
