Rolex 24 Hour 23: Action Express Corvette leads Taylor Corvette
Scott Dixon has taken over in the #02 Chip Ganassi Racing Ford EcoBoost, but remains one lap behind in fourth place. Also, the sister Ganassi #01 has taken another trip to the garage, in what has been a trouble-filled race for the defending winners. The #01 is 45 laps down.
Richard Westbrook is turning in lap times on par with Taylor and Bourdais, and has moved into fifth position in the #90 Spirit of Daytona Corvette. Westbrook, however, is two laps down, and will need a little luck at this late stage to contend for the victory.
The #6 Muscle Milk Nissan Oreca currently being driven by Klaus Graf is sixth.
Nick Tandy still leads the GTM class in the #911 Porsche. Colin Braun has taken over for Mark Wilkins leads the PC class in the #54 Oreca FLM09. Spencer Pumpelly now leads the GTD class in the #45 Audi R8 LMS. Alessandro Per Guidi has taken over the lead of the GTD class in the #555 Ferrari 458 Italia.
We expect Joao Barbosa to take over for Bourdais shortly in the #5, and Max Angelelli to replace Taylor in the #10.
Alessandro Pier Guidi took over in GTD at the top of the hour, returning the No. 555 Level 5 Motorsports Ferrari 458 Italia. Spencer Pumpelly was second in the No. 45 Flying Lizard Motorsports Audi R8 LMS. 12.275 seconds back.
Patrick Pilet continues to hold a one-lap lead in GTLM in the No. 911 Porsche North America Porsche 911 RSR. Joey Hand is the only other driver in striking distance in the No. 55 BMW Team RLL BMW Z4 GTE.
Colin Braun leads PC in the No. 54 CORE autosport ORECA FLM09, with Tom Kimber Smith 65.617 seconds back in the No. 25 8Star Motorsports ORECA.
The hour saw the official retirement of the defending race-winning No. 01 Telcel/Target Ford EcoBoost/Riley. Scott Pruett, denied an unprecedented Rolex 24 victory, said he felt a vibration and took the car to the garage. Earlier in the event, Pruett felt something give as he exited the chicane, sending him sideways and into the outside wall – leading to an extended trip to the garage.
