Barber: Vautier tops session 1 despite crash

Tristan Vautier

Tristan Vautier led a Honda 1-2 in the opening practice session for the Honda GP of Alabama at the beautiful Barber Motorsports Park outside of Birmingham. Vautier caused the session to be extended by 5 minutes because he crashed and crews found it hard to get his car out of the pea gravel where it was situated.

Scott Dixon was second driving the Target Chip Ganassi entry while defending series champion Ryan Hunter Reay jumped up to third in the closing minute.

Charlie Kimball and Will Power rounded out the top-5.
