Another death at Macau GP

UPDATE #2 Video of today's fatal accident of Phillip YAU … if you compare this accident of the multiple car accident during last year’s GT race (see my previous e-mail with video), then you wonder what on earth happened here … YAU sort of drives straight on into the guardrail without outside help and his car eventually comes to a halt … This could even have been a heart attack … or something similar … very strange …

11/16/12 Last year there was a massive accident during the Asian GT round at Macau at Mandarin Corner, and although it looks like at least someone must be hurt, all drivers walked away from this accident …

Today's fatal accident happened at this particular high speed corner … this time the driver wasn't that lucky … Let’s just hope it stays like this and there won't be any further fatalities … but it was only day 2 (out of 4 days) of racing …

11/16/12 Following on the heels of a motorcycle racer being killed at Macau yesterday, the Macau Grand Prix Committee regrets to announce that YAU Wing Choi, Phillip, competitor No. 31, from Hong Kong, competing in the CTM Macau Touring Car Cup, has succumbed to injuries sustained in a racing accident during the qualifying session this afternoon.

The incident occurred at Mandarin Bend at 13.11. The qualifying session was immediately red flagged.

After the incident, two fully equipped rescue cars were at the scene, followed by the extrication car. The position of the racing car required cutting in order to facilitate extrication. At 13.19, the competitor was removed from the car, and at 13:20 Mr. Yau was transported by ambulance to hospital where he was admitted at 13.24.

Continuous CPR was performed however he succumbed to his injuries at 13.51.

The Macau Grand Prix Committee has contacted the family and the members of the team. The Committee expresses its sincere condolences.
