IndyCar Motegi and Kentucky TV ratings

Versus continues to be a noose around IndyCar's neck with graveyard TV ratings, lower than infomercials.

Ed Carpenter's win at Kentucky Speedway on Versus Oct 5th drew a 0.1 rating with 188,000 viewers. The race started prime time at 2:30 p.m. Eastern Sunday.

The 0.1 rating makes Kentucky the second-lowest rated IndyCar race this season, behind only the 112,000 who tuned in to watch the race at Motegi on Sept. 18 in the middle of the night Saturday night/Sunday morning. The Sunday repeat of the broadcast drew 109,000 viewers for a total of 221,000 viewers, so overall Kentucky drew the fewest viewers for what was arguably IndyCar's most exciting race of the year. Seems IndyCar fans could care less about the oval races. And if fans are not watching, what is in it for sponsors?

We predicted the day the 10-year contract was signed with Versus that it would be a major mistake……and it was. One can only hope ratings will improve when the channel gets rebranded as the NBC Sports Network.
