SCCA World Challenge moves from Speed TV to Versus

The SCCA Pro Racing World Challenge will no longer be associated with Speed TV, the series said Monday. It is moving to the Comcast-owned Versus network.

WC Vision, the series promoter and marketer, said the move is due to better TV coverage and time slots offered by Versus. Some telecasts will air around Versus broadcasts of the Izod IndyCar Series, which joined the network last year.

"We are thrilled that our 2010 events will air on Versus," WC Vision vice president of marketing and communications Dave Drimmie said. "The series returns to a weekend time slot, and this year our fans will have a longer and more in-depth program. We're also looking at a syndication package that would enable World Challenge to reach a total of 160 million households."

Erik Arneson, vice president of Speed TV's media relations, told AutoWeek: "Our schedule is just getting more and more crowded," so Speed did not object when the SCCA said that Versus was able to supply better time slots, closer to the actual races. "There was nothing negative about the split at all, and we wish them the best," Arneson said.
