Spectators to walk to 2010 British GP

(GMM) Thousands of daily spectators for the 2010 British grand prix at Donington will have to walk up to 45 minutes each way from car parks, according to a local newspaper.

The Leicester Mercury says it has received a draft version of the race's transport plan, showing that the percentage of spectators allowed to drive to the circuit must park up to two miles away and then walk to the gates.

Event boss Simon Gillett's plan is to avoid gridlock on surrounding roads that cannot cope with the expected crowd of up to 100,000 per day.

Spectators who have to park even further away, or arrive by train, will be ferried to the track by bus, the draft plan also revealed.

The visitors will need to plan their means of travelling to the grand prix at the time they buy a ticket.

"The sale of advance tickets will mean that the circuit can control, to an extent, the arrival and departure times of customers with bus, train and flight scheduling," the plan said.

Gillett was not available for comment.
