Tracy on sidelines as IRL season begins
The Toronto racer has yet to resolve his contractual situation with Gerald Forsythe, who previously announced he would not be fielding a car in the IRL. Tracy still has four years left on a five year deal he signed with Forsythe last season which calls for the Chicago businessman to field a car for him.
However, it looks like the only race Tracy will get a chance to compete in is the Champ Car swansong being staged a Long Beach next month.
Tracy says he approached a potential sponsor on behalf of Forsythe in the hopes of getting him back on track in 2008.
"I sent them the details of the proposal, but I didn't get a response for three weeks," Tracy tells the Toronto Star. "Finally I phoned Neil (Micklewright) and he told me Gerry wasn't interested."
"The next thing I get is the announcement that Forsythe is going to help Conquest Racing with technical and engineering support."
This week's announcement that Andretti Green Promotions had signed a letter of intent to purchase the rights to the former Toronto Champ Car race is just another example of Forsythe divesting himself of any and all links to the IRL. Forsythe and Kevin Kalkhoven owned the rights to the Toronto race.
