Monaco practice notes: Thursday 7

(GMM) Former quadruple world champion and team owner Alain Prost showed up at the scene of the Monaco grand prix on Thursday.

FIA president Max Mosley, another rare visitor to the F1 paddocks, was also spotted watching the action from a trackside vantage point.

The front-right corner of Ralf Schumacher's Toyota was badly damaged in the afternoon session when he crashed at the Swimming Pool section.

Toyota encountered a unique problem inside its Monaco garage on Thursday — a burst water pipe that disabled the telemetry screens and gave team members an unwelcome preview of the rain that is forecast to fall here on Saturday and Sunday.

"In between the two sessions, the team worked hard to restore all functions and second practice started as normal," the team said.

Christijan Albers' Spyker broke down in Monaco morning practice with a Ferrari engine failure, the Dutch squad confirmed on Thursday.

He avoids a grid penalty, however, as the engine change occurred on the first day of official GP action. Albers' teammate Adrian Sutil also had engine trouble and later crashed into the barriers at Portier.

BMW's Nick Heidfeld on Thursday suffered with a fuel pressure problem.

"My lap times don't look good, but when the engine cuts out it costs time," he said.
