Hornish continues to perform poorly in NASCAR

UPDATE Another article underscoring just how bad Sam Hornish is doing in NASCAR.

And this article says, Hornish, at Richmond International Raceway for a Busch Series race Friday night, will begin practice Tuesday in defense of his Indy 500 victory. A start in the July 29 Allstate 400 Nextel Cup race at the Indianapolis track isn't out of the question yet, but Hornish isn't optimistic it would happen in 2007.

"I think that's kind of a long shot for us, especially for how much of a process it would be to be able to go in there to do that, to have the cars prepared, the crew around and things like that," Hornish said. "I think that would be pretty tough. But I haven't gotten an absolute 'No' yet, so I don't know if we will or not.

"I'd say that it looks like something that will come hopefully in the future, but probably not this year."

And of course his poor performance isn't just in NASCAR. He has made IROC starts at Indy, finishing 10th and 11th out of 12 drivers.

05/05/07 The IRL's supposedly best driver, Sam Hornish Jr., continues to perform poorly week in and week out in NASCAR despite driving for the mighty Penske team. He qualified 28th at Richmond for this weekend's Busch Series race and then crashed out yet again in the race Friday night, finishing dead last. Like all IRL drivers, he looks cool in those sunglasses though doesn't he? We mention that because in most media photos IRL drivers are sporting sunglasses to look cool. We suggest they take some driving lessons first because except for restrictor plates races, NASCAR isn't 100% throttle racing. You actually have to be able to drive. This is why you never see Hornish contending for wins on the IRL road courses. Likewise he did nothing coming up through the CART ladder system where you had to be good to excel. Somehow he does well on the IRL 100% throttle tracks, though of late Dan Wheldon appears to have his number there as well.
