IndyCar: Friday Morning Report from Road America

Good morning from the rolling hills of the Kettle Moraine Valley in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.  The skies are partly cloudy this morning after heavy rains last night in the area.  Today is predicted to be sunny and temperatures in the high 80s.   Pretty steamy conditions when the IndyCars go out for their only practice session scheduled today for 4:00 pm local time.

There has been several driver changes for this weekend due to incidents in racing and off the track.  Kevin Magnussen will behind the wheel of the Arrow McLaren SP  No 7 entry for this event substituting for the injured  Felix Rosenqvist.  The Swede had a heavy crash into a tire barrier in Detroit Race 1 last Saturday and has not been cleared to drive this weekend.  The team has not issued any further statement about the extent of his injuries.

Magnussen is a Formula One veteran and is currently racing in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship for Chip Ganassi Racing.   The sports car team won the  race last Saturday in Detroit in the Cadillac prototype.

Rinus VeeKay, driving the No 21 entry for Ed Carpenter Racing, had a cycling accident this past week and had surgery to repair a fractured clavicle.  Oliver Askew, the 2019 Indy Lights champion,  will be piloting his ride this weekend.  Askew has raced at Road America eight times in the last four years.

Cody Ware, will be driving the No 52 entry for Dale Coyne Racing with RWR.   Ware, who drives full time in NASCAR, had tested with DCR earlier this year at Sebring International Raceway and turned some laps at Road America two weeks ago.   The experienced driver had hoped to secure a ride in the Indianapolis 500 last month, but time ran out before the entry could be finalized.
