F1: Monza Sprint Race to be 18-laps

The Italian Grand Prix in early September will be the second of three rounds to feature the experimental format this season – and will follow a timetable identical to that seen at Silverstone.

Friday will open with Practice 1 in the afternoon, followed by Qualifying – which sets the grid for the Sprint – in the evening. Saturday morning will see a second and final practice session, before the 100km F1 Sprint in the afternoon to determine the starting order for Sunday’s Grand Prix.

With the length of the historic Autodromo Nazionale Monza coming in at just under 6km – 5.793km to be precise – F1 Sprint is expected to be an 18-lap blast around the famous park, before the 53-lap main event on Sunday.

Italian Grand Prix weekend schedule:

FRI SEP 10 FP1 1430-1530
FRI SEP 10 Qualifying 1800-1900
SAT SEP 11 FP2 1200-1300
SAT SEP 11 Sprint Qualifying 1630-1700
SUN SEP 12 Race 1500

The third and final 2021 Grand Prix to trial the F1 Sprint format is expected to be a flyaway event and will be confirmed later in the year.
