NASCAR: Helio Castroneves Would be Interested in doing Daytona 500

Legendary INDYCAR driver and four-time Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves was a guest Monday on the SiriusXM NASCAR Radio channel with hosts Danielle Trotta and Jeff Burton. During the conversation, Castroneves shared that he has always been interested in racing in NASCAR and driving in the Daytona 500.

Helio Castroneves on NASCAR: “You guys know that I’m a big fan of any type of racing, right? Something that I never did – and I understand, you know, it’s a completely different car. And Roger Penske, I drove for him for over 21 years and probably what he did was making the right decisions, not me to do it, but he never let me drive a Cup car. I swear to God, I always asked him. And I stayed there for a long time and I didn’t ask like repeatedly, like I wait for one or two years and then when he said no, another two years, ‘Hey, what about this? You know, maybe there was a test that I can do,’ you know, just who knows? Until finally he said, ‘No I’m not gonna let you do that.’ And, well now, you know, now I can. I feel that when I drove the SRX and drove in dirt, which was really cool, I had a great, great time last year. I said, why not? Why not try Daytona 500, you know, or some sort of a road course or whatever it is? So that would be something. That would be something I would like to try because I feel that I would definitely check that box on my bucket list.”
