IndyCar: Rossi tops opening practice for the Gallagher GP

Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi’s engineer made a change to the rear suspension geometry during opening practice for the Gallagher GP at Indianapolis, and it worked as Rossi turned the fastest lap in the only practice session ahead of qualifying at 1:00pm ET.

Rossi’s lap of 1m10.0919s in his Honda was 0.02s faster than Josef Newgarden’s Penske Chevy.

Rossi’s Andretti teammate Colton Herta was 3rd quick, just 0.05s off the pace.

Scott McLaughlin in the #3 Penske Chevy and Alex Palou in the #10 Ganassi Honda rounded out the top-5.

The session was incident-free.

After being evaluated by INDYCAR Medical Director Dr. Geoffrey Billows following this morning’s NTT INDYCAR SERIES practice at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the driver of the No. 2 PPG Team Penske Chevrolet, Josef Newgarden, has been cleared to resume all racing activities.

The next on-track session on the IMS road course is NTT INDYCAR SERIES qualifying scheduled for 1 p.m. ET. The Gallagher Grand Prix is scheduled for noon ET Saturday, July 30.
