F1: Brad Pitt to drive for 11th team at half of F1 races

Brad Pitt will be driving an actual F2 car alongside the rest of the grid at Silverstone as part of the new F1 movie for Apple Studios that’s in production according to F1 President Stefano Domenicali.

Directors Jerry Bruckheimer and Joseph Kosinski will enter an “11th team” to film on track for the rest of the season.

Pitt will drive an adapted F2 car between F1 sessions that has been worked on by Hamilton’s Mercedes F1 team, with a tiny 6K camera installed to capture footage for the film.

Meanwhile, Hamilton is working hard on getting the script right.

“I don’t know absolutely every single plan with all the things we’ll be doing in the paddock, I’m more focused on making sure the script is where it needs to be,” he said in Miami on Thursday.

“That’s where all the time is currently, going through the script.

“We’ve got a really great and diverse cast. Joe’s focus is to make us as embedded in this sport as possible. For me, it’s to make sure it’s authentic, and that all of you and racing fans see its authenticity and say ‘this is believable’, and have a view of racing from a different perspective than you might see on TV.

“I’m spending a lot of time right now helping Joe and the team get the script right, it’s an amazing process and I’m really enjoying it.”

Liberty Media has brought new fans into F1

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali was present at the WSJ Formula 1 summit in Miami Thursday, and mentioned two great stats that show insight into the sport’s growth over the last few years:

  • 1 out of every 3 F1 fans started following the sport in the last 4 years
  • 40% of all F1 fans are now woman
