IndyCar News: Siemens to sponsor Andretti’s Kirkwood for Indy 500

Andretti Global, a racing team under the TWG Motorsports umbrella, announced today that longtime partner Siemens, a global technology powerhouse, will serve as the primary partner for the No. 27 Siemens Honda piloted by Kyle Kirkwood at the 109th Running of the Indianapolis 500.

Siemens drives success on track for Andretti INDYCAR as the team’s official software technology provider. The Indianapolis-based team utilizes a suite of technologies from the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio to design and optimize race-critical systems, including the company’s comprehensive digital twin technology, which allows the team to create a physics-based model of the race car’s systems to predict performance in the virtual world before production. Andretti’s digital twin also reduces reliance on time-consuming physical test track runs and allows for real-time, data-driven decision making and rapid iteration of design changes.

Dating back to 1997, the technical partnership between Siemens and the Andretti organization is the team’s longest-standing partnership. While this will be the first time Siemens has been featured as a primary partner with Andretti INDYCAR, the blue-chip technology company’s branding has been visible on the team’s cars for the past 28 years.

Innovations enabled by Siemens technology in the racing world have set an important standard for design, safety, reliability and sustainability across the entire automotive industry and mobility industries. Optimizing direct-shift gearboxes and aerodynamic efficiency has improved fuel economy in production vehicles. The use of lightweight materials, like carbon fiber, has reduced vehicle weight, enhancing performance and efficiency. Additionally, hybrid powertrains have promoted resource efficiency and circularity by reducing emissions and utilizing recycled materials.

Siemens Xcelerator software is relied on not only by the fastest race teams in motorsports but across the world’s largest industries, including manufacturing, energy, healthcare, aerospace, defense and consumer goods.

The three-time INDYCAR race winner will take to the 2.5-mile oval of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the first time tomorrow in the No. 27 Siemens Honda for Opening Day of the Indianapolis 500. Live coverage of the on-track action will air on FOX all month, culminating in the 109th Running of the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, May 25.
