IndyCar News: Colton Herta wads up his #26 Andretti Honda

Colton Herta’s dream of becoming a Cadillac F1 driver took another hit on Saturday at Indianapolis.

Herta lost control of his #26 Andretti Global Honda in the first turn of his qualifying run for the 109th running of the Indy 500 and as he slid sideways, air got under his Dallara and his car flipped over and crashed into the wall head first.

Colton Herta got out of the car under his own power after his vicious crash during and appeared to be ok. He was checked and released from the infield care center.

However, he still is not qualified to be an F1 driver and is only 9th in the IndyCar standings. He must finish 1st or 2nd in the points in order to have enough Super License points to drive in F1.

Herta said the car was setup just too loose for him to handle, and now the team is working to prepare the backup car for him.

ā€œI’m fine. Luckily these days the crashes look a lot scarier than they feel. Not to say that that one felt good, but you know, i think the team’s gonna be hard at work.ā€
