F1 News: Marshall designed McLaren still fastest after wing change

Despite the stiffer front wings required in Barcelona this weekend, the Rob Marshall designed McLaren buried the competition at the hands of Lando Norris in Practice 1 for the GP of Spain Formula 1 race.

People in the paddock who know, understand that it was Rob Marshall that made the Red Bull so fast for years.

Lando Norris turned a lap of 1m13.718s in his #4 superior McLaren, 0.367s faster than the Red Bull sled of Max Verstappen around the Barcelona circuit.

Lewis Hamilton was third fastest for Ferrari, 0.378s behind Norris.  He was just ahead of his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc who finished 0.520s behind Norris.

Oscar Piastri rounded out the top-5 in the #81 McLaren, 0.576s behind Norris.

Liam Lawson, Ollie Bearman, Isack Hadjar, Yuki Tsunoda and Pierre Gasly rounded out the top 10.

With many teams running higher fuel loads, aero rakes and the like, it is clear the true pecking order won’t emerge just yet. Nor will much intel on the regulation changes regarding those front wings.

There is still another practice session to come though, so another hour to try and work out who is going to go well here. Rest assured that the Rob Marshall designed McLaren will be hard to beat
