Formula 1 News: Piastri tops Practice 2 for GP of Spain
McLaren driver Oscar Piastri turned a lap of 1m12.760s to top Practice 2 for the 2025 GP of Spain in Barcelona.

George Russell in the #63 Mercedes was 2nd fastest, 0.286s behind the superior McLaren,
The winner of the GP of Spain the last three years, Max Verstappen, was third in his #1 Red Bull. 0.310s behind Piastri.
Lando Norris, who topped Practice 1 in his #4 McLaren, was 4th, with the same exact lap time as Verstappen.
Charles Leclerc rounded out the top-5 in his #16 Ferrari, exactly 1/2-second behind Piastri.
Kimi Antonelli was sixth in the 2nd Mercedes, a much better showing from the teenager – although he has time to find, as he was three tenths behind his teammate.
Fernando Alonso gave the home fans something to cheer with seventh, ahead of Pierre Gasly, Isack Hadjar and Liam Lawson in 10th.
Six-time Spanish Grand Prix winner Hamilton had to settle for 11th, while Kick Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg, Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda and the Williams duo of Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon covered 12th through to 15th. Behind them were the Aston Martin of Stroll (P16), Kick Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto (P17), Ocon (P18), Bearman (P19) and Colapinto (P20).
McLaren might have had a healthy advantage today in both sessions. The gaps tend to narrow into every Saturday, and that Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari have all had flashes of looking good here, and Qualifying should be a tight affair.
Plenty of teams were still testing things out in FP2 as well, running flow-vis paint at times.
