Formula 1 News: Hamilton tops Practice 1 for British GP

Defending British GP winner Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton (pictured) turned a lap of 1m26.892s to top Practice 1 for the 2025 British GP at Silverstone.

Hamilton is a 9-time winner at Silverstone, and he certainly knows his way around the fast circuit.

McLaren’s Lando Norris, still sandbagging, was 2nd fastest, 0.023s behind Hamilton. With two British drivers 1-2, the fans had something to cheer about.

Oscar Piastri in the #81 superior McLaren, was third, 0.150s behind Hamilton.

Charles Leclerc was 4th in the #16 Ferrari, 0.203s behind his teammate.

George Russell rounded out the top-5 for Mercedes, 0.271s behind Hamilton, who had his engine turned up.

The team struggling the most there from the top gaggle is Red Bull – and Max Verstappen has just made his feelings clear on the radio, saying “unbelievable,” how bad the car is.

Max Verstappen was only 10th because the Red Bull RB21 is a complete dog.

How slow is it?

Both Racing Bulls of Isack Hadjar and Liam Lawson were faster than the dog of a car, and Racing Bulls is the Red Bull ‘B’ team.

So, not much to choose between Ferrari and McLaren here. Crucially for the latter, Norris again pipped Piastri – as he did in every session in Austria. The Aussie needs to get a handle on this fast, before it gets out of hand.

Mercedes were in the mix, as were the Racing Bulls. Red Bull have work to do on their dog of a car to make it more drivable here, Williams might be a factor, but are an unknown quantity after running out of sync with the rest today.
