Norris and Piastri 1-2 in messy wet British GP

Formula 1 News: Norris & Piastri 1-2 in messy wet British GP

To the cheers of the British fans, Lando Norris in the #4 superior McLaren led the #81 superior McLaren of Oscar Piastri to a 1-2 finish in the 2025 British GP at Silverstone.

Oscar Piastri would have won the race, but he brake-checked Max Verstappen under a Safety Car period and was slapped with a 10-second penalty that he served on his final pitstop.

As a result, Norris led Piastri home by 7s – an easy 1-2 for McLaren who were so much faster than the opposition in the wet conditions it was like taking candy from a baby.

Norris has taken back-to-back wins for the first time this year, as he beats his teammate at Silverstone.

“It is beautiful,” said Norris.  “Apart from a Championship, this is as good as it gets in terms of feelings. Incredible race, stressful as always but the support from the fans made the difference so I have to thank them.

“The main thing is don’t ***** it up, that is rule number one. It might never happen again, hope it does, but these are memories I’ll have forever.

“As far as being a stressful race, it’s as stressful as it gets. A round of applause for Oscar as he put in a good race, he was fast. Credit to him and of course McLaren, to win at home is pretty amazing.”

“I’m not going to say much, I’ll get myself in trouble,” said a disappointed Piastri.

“Congrats to Nico, that’s the story.

“Apparently you can’t brake behind the Safety Car anymore, I had done it for five laps before but I’m not going to say more, I’m going to get myself in trouble. I still like Silverstone even if I don’t like it today.”

Nico Hulkenberg drove an excellent wet race and took 3rd for a great podium finish for Sauber, 34.6-seconds behind Norris.

“It’s been a long time coming hasn’t it?! What a race, coming from virtually last, doing it all again like last weekend. Crazy conditions, survival mode all race. We were really on it, no mistakes,” said Hulkenberg.

“Today, I was in denial until the last pit stop and then I heard we gapped Lewis so I thought okay, breathing space but then he was closing. The pressure was there, intense race but we didn’t crack.

“I was thinking he was going to give it all in front of his home crowd, but sorry guys, it is also my day!”

Lewis Hamilton brought the #44 Ferrari home in 4th, 40 seconds behind Piastri.

Polesitter Max Verstappen, who had a low downforce setup on the car, had no chance in the wet conditions and struggled to finish 5th, 56-seconds behind Norris.

Lance Stroll was passed by Verstappen with one lap to go and came home 7th and Pierre Gasly also got past him on the final lap and took 6th.

Alex Albon took eighth for Williams, with Fernando Alonso and George Russell rounding out the top-10 for Aston Martin and Mercedes.

Kimi Antonelli, Isack Hadjar, Gabriel Bortoleto, Liam Lawson and Franco Colapinto all retired.
