Formula 1 News: Lance Stroll calls his father’s F1 car a $hitbox
F1 driver Lance Stroll described his Aston Martin machine as the ‘worst piece of s***’ he has driven after finishing seventh at the British Grand Prix. His father, Lawrence Stroll, owns the Aston Martin F1 team.
After a bold strategy call, 26-year old Stroll was running fourth in last Sunday’s British GP behind the two McLaren drivers and pole-sitter Max Verstappen, and when the latter spun under his own power on a safety car restart, he was promoted onto the provisional podium.
Unfortunately for Stroll, he didn’t have the confidence in his AMR25 machine, nor the talent, to hold off the chasing pack. Nico Hulkenberg passed him in his Sauber before Lewis Hamilton and a recovering Verstappen also charged through.
On the last lap Stroll lost another position to Pierre Gasly.

After crossing the line in seventh, race engineer Gary Gannon came onto the radio to note: “Yeah. Crazy car to drive, amazing finish.” This comment elicited a strong response from his driver. “Yeah, crazy is an understatement,” Stroll replied. “I mean, it’s the worst piece of s*** I have ever driven in my life, to be honest. But it’s okay, seventh.”
Stroll’s seventh-place finish means he’s pulled ahead of Aston Martin teammate Fernando Alonso in the drivers’ championship.
Alonso finished ninth after the various tire strategies didn’t work in his favor.
Reflecting on his race at Silverstone, Stroll said: “Very mixed weekend for us at Silverstone – we showed some decent pace during practice on Friday, which unfortunately we couldn’t build on during Qualifying and started from the back today.
“The team made some good strategy calls during the race and overall a good result.
“I really struggled with tire degradation and unfortunately we weren’t in a position where we could fight for more. [Nico] Hülkenberg had a lot more grip during that last stint and with the level of degradation we got the best possible result today.”
