Formula 1 News: Norris and Piastri stay 1-2 in superior McLarens
Lando Norris (pictured) turned a lap of 1m15.624s in his superior #4 McLaren designed by Rob Marshall to top Practice 2 for the 2025 Hungarian GP at the Hungaroring.

The McLarens go around the tight Hungaroring like they are on rails, which underscores what a genius Rob Marshall is. It wasn’t Adrian Newey who made the Red Bull so fast; it was Rob Marshall.

Points leader Oscar Piastri was 2nd fastest in his #81 McLaren, 0.291s behind his teammate. Recall that Norris sat on pole last year when the McLaren was also the fastest car after Rob Marshall arrived in the team and began to work his magic.

Charles Leclerc, who was third fastest in Practice 1 in his #16 Ferrari, was again 3rd fastest in Practice 2, 0.399s behind Norris.
Lance Stroll in the #18 Aston Martin was 4th and just ahead of his #14 teammate Fernando Alonso who rounded out the top-5, 0.609s behind Norris.
Lewis Hamilton was 6th in the #44 Ferrari, once again skower than his more talented teammate Leclerc.
George Russell was 7th for Mercedes ahead of Isack Hadjar, Yuki Tsunoda and Kimi Antonelli rounded out the top-10.
Max Verstappen in the #1 Red Bull RB21 dog was way down in 14th, 1.167s behind Norris.
Norris is the man to beat heading into Saturday in Budapest, so Piastri will need to work hard tonight to work out how to close the gap to his team mate.
But behind it is anyone’s guess – Leclerc looks good, Aston Martin does as well, Hadjar has been in the mix, Hamilton can never be discounted here… But can Red Bull bounce back after a torrid Friday?
