It appeared like it was going to be a McLaren 1-2 but with less than 10 laps to go, the Mercedes engine in Lando Norris’ McLaren expired. As a result, Piastri extended his championship lead to 34 points (309 to 275) with 9 races to go in 2025.

As a result, Max Verstappen was elevated to 2nd place in the Red Bull RB21 dog, 1.271s behind Piastri after the race went green with 4 laps to go.

“It wasn’t easy an easy race – gave it everything at the start to move forward and had a little moment in Turn 2. But in general, to be on the podium here is a great result.

“I tried to send it into Turn 3, but there was to much sand in Turn 2!”

Isack Hadjar took his first Formula 1 podium in third for the Racing Bulls team, 3.233s behind Piastri. He is the youngest French rookie to stand on an F1 podium.

“It feels a bit unreal. What was most surprising to me was keeping the fourth place for the race. Unfortunately for Lando, we took advantage of his [DNF]. I maximized what I had and made no mistakes.

“This was the target since I was a kid, this is the first step and hopefully more to come.”

George Russell brought his No. 63 Mercedes home in 4th, 5.654s behind Piastri.

Alex Albon rounded out the top-5 for Williams, 6.327s behind Piastri.

Oliver Bearman recovered from a Pit Lane start to finish 6th for the Haas team.

Lance Stroll recovered from two crashes in practice and qualifying to bring his Aston Martin home in 7th ahead of his teammate Fernando Alonso.

Yuki Tsunoda was 9th in the #22 Red Bull while Esteban Ocon gave the Haas team the final point position in 10th.

Lewis Hamilton’s disappointing debut season with Ferrari continued as he crashed out of the Dutch Grand Prix.

The seven-time world champion’s race ended on Lap 23 when he ran out of talent at Turn 3 and slid off into the barriers.

Teammate Charles Leclerc also retired from a nightmare race for Ferrari after being speared by the Mercedes’ of Kimi Antonelli at Turn 3.

Orange for the Netherlands, but also for McLaren today. Another win for them, but not the 1-2, and they don’t have much time to investigate Norris’ issue with another race coming up next weekend.

Plenty of drivers will be proud of how they rode that one out, plenty will feel aggrieved, and a few definitely will rue this as a missed opportunity.

Ferrari heads to their home race in Monza next weekend on the back of a double DNF, with Hamilton off to his first home race as a Scuderia driver looking short of confidence.

There are a few incidents that are being investigated post-race by the way. Hamilton’s yellow flag infringement pre-race, Bortoleto’s car being driven in an unsafe condition, and the incident between Leclerc and Russell.

I think today we experienced the two sides of motorsport. We have the joy and satisfaction of another victory. And on the opposite side we have the disappointment and the pain for a retirement. Lando was in the mix to win the race. But this is modern racing.

We don’t know yet [what went wrong] – it would be unfair to speculate whether it was a chassis problem or an engine problem. We will fix it, and we will go again.

No doubt, no hesitation – I think we will see the best of Lando as he tries to recover the points we lost. —Andrea Stella, McLaren Team Boss
