Broc Feeney at The Bend

Supercars News: Feeney wins pole for 500km race at the Bend

Broc Feeney (pictured) solidified his status as the man to beat in Supercars by snatching his 14th pole position of the season—and fifth in a row—at the AirTouch 500.

The 22-year-old edged out Cameron Hill (#4 Matt Stone Racing Camaro) by just 0.1023s in a razor-sharp Boost Mobile Top 10 Shootout, setting up a blockbuster 500km endurance opener on Sunday at The Bend Motorsport Park.

Feeney’s blistering 1m48.6548s lap around the 4.950km circuit not only topped the weekend’s times but also etched him into Supercars lore alongside legends Peter Brock, Allan Moffat, Dick Johnson, and Scott McLaughlin as the only drivers to claim five consecutive poles. With the top five separated by a mere 0.3s, the grid promises fireworks for the Ryco Enduro Cup’s curtain-raiser, where Feeney shares duties with co-driver Jamie Whincup.

Shootout Drama: Feeney Edges Ahead

As the second-to-last runner, Feeney unleashed a masterclass—storming the opening sector for a crucial tenth, hugging apexes through the sweeper, and dominating the final sector to seal the deal. “It’s fantastic,” Feeney beamed post-session. “Stoked to nail that lap after yesterday’s afternoon times set the bar high. Super happy with it, though I wondered if I could’ve squeezed a bit more knowing Brodie would go big. That last sector strength saved us—absolute buzz, especially my first enduro pole after an up-and-down day.”

Earlier, Whincup’s collision with teammate Will Brown’s Red Bull entry—driven by Scott Pye—drew a $1,000 fine and sidelined Brown to 16th on the grid, turning a tough Saturday into redemption for the Triple Eight squad.

Front Row Locked: Hill’s Star Turn

Hill, improving from fifth in qualifying, delivered a standout session to join Feeney on the front row alongside co-driver Cam McLeod. The MSR duo’s charge denied Hill his maiden Supercars pole, but it signals big momentum for the up-and-comer.

Ford Fest in the Middle: Kostecki Leads the Blue Charge

Defending Bathurst 1000 winner Brodie Kostecki (#38 Dick Johnson Racing Mustang) provisionally topped qualifying but settled for third in the Shootout, 0.1286s adrift. He trailed by two tenths in sector one but clawed back to lead by three thousandths in sector two—only for a sluggish final turn to cost him. “Pretty close, but no cigar,” Kostecki quipped. “We’ll tune it for race mode tomorrow; it’s wild out there right now. Credit to Broc—that was a ripper lap.”

Tickford Racing’s Cam Waters and teammate Thomas Randle locked in fourth and fifth, with points runner-up Matt Payne (#26 Grove Racing Mustang)—paired with eight-time champ Garth Tander—rounding out sixth. Fords dominate 3-6, setting up a blue-wall challenge to Triple Eight’s red menace.

Back Markers: Wood’s Off, Walkinshaw Stagnant

Anton De Pasquale (#18 Team 18 Camaro) held seventh, ahead of Chaz Mostert (#25 Walkinshaw Andretti United Mustang) in eighth. Erebus Motorsport’s Cooper Murray (#99 Camaro) nabbed ninth, while Kiwi Ryan Wood (#76 Walkinshaw Andretti United Mustang) tumbled to 10th after the Shootout’s lone excursion—sliding off at the triple-apex right-hander.
